What is a VPN?
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is an encrypted, private connection through the public Internet to a specific network (UW-Stout).
Why do I need a VPN connection?
A VPN allows you to securely access university resources that would otherwise be inaccessible from the Internet or outside of the campus network. Examples of campus resources are:
- Departmental or course-related network folders
- Keyserved applications
Who can use VPN?
UW-Stout students, faculty, and staff may use VPN. You must have a broadband Internet connection to use VPN. Dial-up modem connections will not work. You must also have a valid UW-Stout username and password to use the UW-Stout VPN.
Can I surf Internet while on VPN?
Nope. You must disconnect from VPN before you can surf the Internet.
What is my VPN username and password?
Your username and password is the same as your UW-Stout username and password.
